Professional Biography
Michelle was elected to City Council in November 2018. She is the Communications Director for Greater Albany Public Schools (GAPS). Prior to joining GAPS, Michelle worked in public relations and government affairs for Western University of Health Sciences from 2011 to 2021. Michelle has a background in journalism, serving as the editor of a local newspaper from 2009 to 2011 and a newspaper in Prineville from 2004 to 2006.
Education
As a lifelong learner, Michelle holds a master’s degree in public policy (2020) and a bachelor’s degree in political science (2009), both from Oregon State University. She also holds an associate’s degree from Linn-Benton Community College. She is a 2002 graduate of Lebanon High School.
Personal
Michelle lived on Navy bases along the West Coast before she and her mother, Remy, moved to Lebanon in 1994. Michelle married Jon Steinhebel in 2005, and the couple has two young children. She enjoys traveling and going on camping trips in the Northwest with her family.

In recognition of her community service, Michelle was awarded the Junior First Citizen award in 2015. Additionally, prior to serving on Council, Michelle was part of both the Task Force and Steering Committee for the City’s 2040 Vision and Strategic Action Plan.
