Press Release - Notice of Chlorine Shortage in the Northwest
NOTICE OF CHLORINE SHORTAGE IN THE NORTHWEST
Oregon is experiencing a shortage of chlorine, the chemical used in small amounts
by water treatment facilities to prevent harmful bacteria growth in drinking water
supply. The shortage occurred after a power outage earlier this month at the
Westlake chemical facility in Longview, Washington, the main provider of chlorine
for Oregon.
The City of Lebanon currently has an ample supply of chlorine in stock and is
working closely with the Department of Environmental Quality and the Oregon
Health Authority to monitor the situation. Currently, there are no restrictions on
water usage, however the City encourages water conservation practices.
Lebanon’s drinking water is currently safe, and the public will be notified when and
if the situation changes.
